Jose Antonio Vargas came out of the immigration closet, as in going public about his undocumented status, in 2011. The Pulizter Prize-winning journalist was on the cover of magazines, and went on to make the CNN documentary, DOCUMENTED: A FILM BY AN UNDOCUMENTED AMERICAN about his story, and, by extension, the story of millions of others like him, who came to this country as a child, grew up here, and now have no path to citizenship. Vargas knew that going public could lead to deportation at any moment, and with his detention this morning in McAllen, TX before boarding a flight to Houston. This is a good time to re-visit my interview with him on May 8, 2014, in which he described his personal journey, and his hope for immigration reform that will benefit everyone.
